Help support your child's school!
Please CONTRIBUTE to help us reach our fundraising goal of 100% participation from our families.
The Lab Middle School Direct Appeal is our singular, most important fundraiser. The Direct Appeal is the lifeline that allows Lab Middle to offer the extensive afterschool programs and fund the necessary expenses that make our school the vibrant community that it is. Without your continued support, these programs cannot not exist!

All New York City general education students up through sixth grade who live more than one mile from their schools are entitled to free transportation on the DOE school bus system. Seventh graders and older students who live more than 1 ½ miles from the school qualify for a free Metrocard Student pass to use on MTA subways or buses. Students who live closer than 1 ½ miles from the school may qualify for half fare Metrocards to be used on MTA buses only. Special education students may qualify for either school bus service or Metrocards as determined by their IEPs.
Metrocard eligible students will receive two passes during the school year, one in September and one in February.
For assistance on transportation-related concerns and questions, please contact Jamie Duzant, the school’s Data Manager at 212-691-6119 x4221 or x4220, or JDuzant@schools.nyc.gov.
Additionally, several private bus companies transport students to and from our school for a fee. For private bus information, please contact the principal’s office. Click here for additional details or here for information on bus routes.
Late Bus
If a child takes a DOE bus and arrives late due to a late bus, the child is marked as late, but receives a code of ‘late bus.’
If a child arrives late to school on a private bus, the parent should send a note or an e-mail with the child indicating that the child’s arrival was a result of a late bus – and it will be coded as such on the child’s record.
Transportation with Sport Teams
Children who participate in a sports team will travel on mass transit with their coach. Transit rides are free of charge. Children will not receive a Metrocard for sports travel. Instead, all coaches arrange for the necessary transport and paperwork to enable all team members to travel, free of charge.
