Help support your child's school!
Please CONTRIBUTE to help us reach our fundraising goal of 100% participation from our families.
The Lab Middle School Direct Appeal is our singular, most important fundraiser. The Direct Appeal is the lifeline that allows Lab Middle to offer the extensive afterschool programs and fund the necessary expenses that make our school the vibrant community that it is. Without your continued support, these programs cannot not exist!

Visitors and Guests
Lab Middle School does not permit guests to accompany a child to school. Children may not bring a cousin or a friend to school for the day.
Gym Uniforms
Students are required to wear Lab Middle School gym uniforms when in gym class. The uniform is a Lab T-shirt, dark shorts or long pants appropriate for exercising, and sneakers. Children change in the locker rooms. Any child who is not in shorts or exercise pants or his/her uniform will be marked as ‘unprepared’ for that gym class. T-shirts and shorts are available for purchase through the PA’s school store.
Birthday Celebrations
Lab does not have an official policy on birthday celebrations. Parents who would like to organize a celebration for their child’s birthday should contact their child’s homeroom teacher, as any party should take place in the homeroom classroom. However, the decision to hold a party is at the discretion of each teacher. Parties should only be held during general homeroom time, not during a class period.
Electronics / Cell Phones
Children should not bring electronic devices to school. iPODs and video game players should all remain at home. If these devices are seen by staff during the school day, they will be confiscated. Cell phones are permitted for safety purposes, but should be kept in backpacks during the school day. When not on school grounds, it is recommended that students keep valuable electronics, including cell phones, in their backpacks to avoid being a target for theft.
Chewing Gum / Candy
Chewing gum and candy are not permitted in the school. If these items are found by staff during the school day, they will be confiscated.
Food and Drink in the Classroom
Food is allowed only under limited circumstances in classrooms – during lunch clubs and for teacher-hosted parties / publishing coffee-houses (which are at the discretion of each teacher). If a child is caught with food in the classroom – outside of the above situations, the child will be reprimanded. Gum and candy are not allowed during the school day.
Water bottles are permitted as children are encouraged to carry water with them during the day – preferably in a re-usable bottle to cut down on waste. Re-usable water bottles are available for purchase from the PA.
Lost and Found
The Lost and Found is located in room 111.
School Supplies
Each grade team develops a supply list before the start of each school year. The supply list will contain desired supplies for both the student as well as the classroom. This list is mailed to all students over the summer. Students are expected to have the supplies when school begins. If a family cannot afford to purchase the required supplies, please do not worry. Contact the Parent Coordinator and we will make sure your child receives the supplies s/he needs.
Lab Middle School welcomes supply donations year round. All donations are appreciated. Please contact your homeroom teacher or the Parent Coordinator if you are interested in donating throughout the year. Items such as paper, hand sanitizers, tissue paper are always in need, year-round.
Field Trips
Teachers and administrators plan two kinds of trips. Bonding trips are designed to encourage children to interact with one another, live our values, and enjoy each other’s company. Curriculum-related trips are designed to be educational and relate to the curriculum.
To participate in a field trip, a parent or guardian must sign a permission slip and that slip must be received prior to the day of the trip. If a permission slip is not turned in, your child will not be able to go on the trip. Faxed, photocopied, e-mailed or voice approval will not be accepted. An original copy of the permission slip with your signature is required!
Most field trips take place during school day and many have a fee attached. If a family is not able to afford a field trip due to the fee, please let the Parent Coordinator know and the school will take care of your child’s fee. No child will be denied the ability to go on a field trip because they cannot afford the fee.
Parents are sometimes invited to serve as chaperones for field trips. When parents are asked to chaperone a trip, it is important for parents to remember that their role is to assist the teacher(s) and assume supervisory responsibilities over the children.
ID Cards
All entering students receive a student photo ID card. It is important that students do not lose their ID card as they will need to use it for the three years they are at Lab Middle School. If a child loses a card, they may receive a new one from the principal’s office for a $2 fee.
School Store
The Parents’ Association runs a school store. The store is located in the PA office. Gym uniforms are sold at the store as are water bottles and Lab clothing.
Dress Code
It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to ensure that all students attend school appropriately attired.
The community has adopted the following enforceable code for all students to follow:
1. Clothing must be clean, modest and age appropriate.
2. Clothing which contains suggestive, vulgar, violent words and/or images is expressly prohibited.
3. There is an expectation of proper decorum and comportment. Clothing that is deemed to be excessively short is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, short skirts, short shorts, midriff tops and any exceptionally tight-fitting, transparent or low-cut garments.
In the event that a student is found in violation of the dress code, the student will be asked to change clothing. A student's parent/guardian may be called to bring an appropriate change of clothing if no other solution exists.
No student will be permitted to attend class in violation of the dress code.
School Mascot
The School mascot is the Alligator. Go Gators!
