Help support your child's school!
Please CONTRIBUTE to help us reach our fundraising goal of 100% participation from our families.
The Lab Middle School Direct Appeal is our singular, most important fundraiser. The Direct Appeal is the lifeline that allows Lab Middle to offer the extensive afterschool programs and fund the necessary expenses that make our school the vibrant community that it is. Without your continued support, these programs cannot not exist!

There is a strong information flow between Lab Middle School, parents and students. The administration communicates directly with students every day with information about afterschool programs, pep rallies, clubs and other in-school activities. To keep the parent body informed about what is happening at Lab, the administration and PA ensures seamless communication between school and home. There are several ways to stay connected:
School Website
Our school website, www.nyclabschool.net, serves as both a vital representation of our school to the public and a secure site for families. To access the secure “SchoolHub” a password is issued to parents to find timely information such as schedules and notices, homeroom class lists, Meg’s blog, teacher contact information and e-mails, and ways to stay connected with our community.
Principal Meg’s Blog
To offer parents a glimpse inside the brown brick walls, Principal Meg Adams started a blog. She visits classrooms, track meets and after school clubs and writes about the amazing feats that happen every day. Her blog is available on the password-protected SchoolHub website.
Parent Coordinator / PA Email
Emails are an important way to stay connected with announcements about school and community activities. Lab is transitioning into a “paperless” school and relying more on email communication with families. To ensure families are informed and don’t miss important school information, please make sure you sign up with the email address you use and check the most. To sign up please email: labmspa@gmail.com.
Mailings
Lab Middle will occasionally send materials in the mail to parents. Report cards are sent home, as are warning letters for children who are at risk of poor performance. From time to time, you will receive other communications by mail.
Backpacked Materials
Students are often given hand out materials at school that they are asked to bring home. Be sure to regularly ask your children if they have received such materials and/or check your child’s backpack for flyers and information about school activities.
PA General Meetings
One of the best ways to get “the big picture” of what’s going on at Lab is to attend PA General Meetings. They are a great way to hear about the exciting events and initiatives that are happening at our school, important school and community updates and an opportunity to meet and greet other parents in a social setting. Meetings are scheduled about once a month.
Class Parent Representatives
Lab Middle School relies heavily on Class Parents who serve as liaisons between classrooms and families. Class Parents help communicate information between the teachers, administration, PA, and families. Each homeroom class has one, two or more parents who volunteer. The PA seeks volunteers to serve as Class Parent Representatives in the early fall. Responsibilities include assisting teachers with needs in the classroom and relaying information to families by email, communicating fundraising and event information from the PA, as well as information from the administration. Class Parents also help to collect and distribute class lists. Become a Class Parent! It’s a great way to take a peek into your child’s classroom with little time commitment!
Parent Handbook
Will be given to new families at the beginning of each year and can also be downloaded on the school website.
ARIS Parent Link
ARIS Parent Link is a tool established by the DOE that allows parents to see their children’s academic performance from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Parents have instant access to their child’s information, including grades and standardized test and assessment scores, and attendance records. Each family is provided with their child’s student ID number; this ID is used to log on to ARIS Parent Link. The web address for ARIS Parent Link is: http://www.arisparentlink.org.
Open School Week
Open School Week gives parents an opportunity to get into the classroom. All parents are encouraged to come and watch. Parents are given a schedule of their child’s classes and may view any classes they wish during the week. Please remember that during Open School Week you are a viewer, not a class participant. If you would like to discuss a class that you have viewed, contact the teacher directly. Open School Week typically occurs in November (although this may vary). Dates are published on the SchoolHub site and on flyers given to children.
Curriculum Night
Parents have the opportunity to meet their child’s classroom teachers and to understand the teachers’ goals and expectations. Curriculum Night takes place on a weekday evening at the beginning of the school year. Parents follow an abbreviated ‘mini-day’ schedule where they travel from class to class and learn about the course work and curriculum for the year. Lab encourages all parents to participate in Curriculum Night. It is a great way to get to know your child’s teachers, learn about the curriculum and meet other parents.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences take place twice a year. Conferences are offered over a two-day period, one afternoon and one evening, for 2 ½ hours each day. Students receive a memo to take home, which explains the dates, times and processes parents should follow. The website will also be used to communicate conference dates and times to families. When arriving for Conferences, parents will be asked to sign in on the ground floor. At this time, parents will receive information on their child’s teacher and classroom locations. Conferences are limited to three minutes with each teacher. If you feel you need more time than the allotted three minutes, contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting outside of Parent Teacher Conferences. All teachers will have chairs lined up outside their classrooms. You are asked to wait on line and sign in on the sheets outside each classroom you would like to visit. Families will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Student volunteers will be posted outside of classrooms to facilitate this process. To maximize your time with teachers, please come prepared with specific questions, review and bring your child’s most recent report card and familiarize yourself with the names of your child’s teachers and classroom numbers.
