Lab afterschool programs offer Lab Middle School students opportunities to develop skills or interests in writing, science, math and more. Lab Afterschool programs are open to all Lab Middle School. All programs are made possible by the fundraising work of the Lab Middle School Parents’ Association. Check out the flyer for more details.
Chess Team
ChessNYC is offering multiple programs for Lab students. Based on ability and interest students may take one of the following chess courses: Performance Chess and Team Development, Head Start (introduction) Class and Chess for Girls. These programs are taught by chess masters and are held at Lab. There is a minimal fee to participate. Please register through the link on our website (www.nyclabschool.net).
Lab Middle School Yearbook
The Yearbook Committee is looking for photographers, writers, artists, and designers to be a part of our staff this year! No prior experience is necessary, just enthusiasm, dedication, and a little creativity! 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are invited to apply. As a member of the yearbook staff, you may take photographs, write captions or articles, help with layouts, and/or draw illustrations. We will meet at least once a week for most of the year. Help make lasting Lab memories by being part of the yearbook staff this year! Come to our information session to learn more and fill out an application.
Unleashed
A girls' leadership program. An informational session will be held in October. The program is open to girls 6th – 8th grade by application. More information to follow. The group will not be starting until mid/late October
Middle School Math Team (MSMT)
Math Team exposes middle school students to more advanced topics and challenging problems than is presented in math class. The team helps students prepare for competitions at the school, city, state, and national levels.
The Gator Players - Drama Program
The Gator Players: A middle-school thespian club that focuses on dramatic play and theatrical exploration. This ensemble will include up to 12 students (6th - 8th grade, boys and girls) who will collaborate to play theatre games and produce original work for performance. Auditions will be held (if needed) in October, and a performance will be held in the Library in June.
Stock Market Team
Come test your skill and luck on the stock market. Students will meet weekly in teams to research, monitor and make decisions about their investments. The Stock Market activity was so popular last year that we have made it into an official afterschool course. We use the Stock Market Game simulation to run our program. Last year one of Lab's teams placed 1st with the highest earnings in the city.
Writers' Group
Unlock your imagination. Unleash your stories. Join us in the Writers' Group to find inspiration and a community of fellow writers.
Lego Robotics Science Squad
For adventurous, inquisitive, and creative thinkers, we need you to represent the new science squad for the NYC Lab Middle School. We will collaborate to create and discover in all areas of science. Don't worry if you're not an expert yet, we're looking for curious science enthusiasts! The squad will compete in tournaments with other young scientists. There will be an application process to participate. Come join the fun!
ADMISSIONS 2012
Lab MS Admissions Exam will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012.
Specific testing information including, time, make-up dates, etc will be communicated next week through our website and your elementary school.
