Help support your child's school!
Please CONTRIBUTE to help us reach our fundraising goal of 100% participation from our families.
The Lab Middle School Direct Appeal is our singular, most important fundraiser. The Direct Appeal is the lifeline that allows Lab Middle to offer the extensive afterschool programs and fund the necessary expenses that make our school the vibrant community that it is. Without your continued support, these programs cannot not exist!

Students at Risk of Failing or Declining Performance
Lab will send a warning letter home if a student’s grade(s) drops significantly or if a child is at risk of failing one or more classes. Letters are typically sent approximately two-thirds of the way through a term. Letters should not come as a surprise to a student or to his/her family. Students are regularly informed of their performance through tests and quizzes. Parents are encouraged to check folders and homework regularly.
Extended Day (ASG: Academic Study Groups)
Extended Day or extra help is offered for all subjects and grades weekly, after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Extra help is offered to all students recommended by the teaching staff. The DOE requires that any student with a ‘1’ on either of the state tests be automatically placed into extended day. Lab Middle School extends this mandate to any student with a ‘2’ or below.
At the end of each school year, grade teachers meet and determine which students should take Extended Day for the following year. Families will receive a letter in the mail if their child has been selected for an Extended Day program. Incoming 6th graders do not begin Extended Day until October.
The composition of the Extended Day classes change constantly. Sometimes, teachers open the classes to a wider group, enabling students to attend so they can receive special help for test prep purposes.
Students participating in Extended Day will meet over time with all the teachers of a given subject, as the staff will rotate their teaching days.
Parents of students who are not mandated to attend extended day are always welcome to request that their child participate in an Extended Day program as an enrichment opportunity.
School Psychologist
Lab Middle School shares an on-site school Psychologist with Lab High School and the Museum School. If either a parent or a teacher has a concern about a student and would like that student evaluated, the Principal or the Assistant Principal should be contacted. In such instances, a Pupil Personnel Team (PPT) may be organized to discuss potential intervention steps. Lab Middle School will work with parents and special education staff to determine required steps and recommendations over time.
ADMISSIONS 2012
Lab MS Admissions Exam will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012.
Specific testing information including, time, make-up dates, etc will be communicated next week through our website and your elementary school.
